Old House & Historic Rochford Guided Tours - 22/23 Sept 2017

Another interesting Rochford Heritage event was held on 22nd & 23rd September 2017. Working closely with Rochford District Council, the Rochford Town Team organised tours inside The Old House as well as walking tours around Historic Rochford.

Over the two mornings, about 80 people enjoyed hearing from our 'in-costume' tour guides about the ancient Old House or stepping back in time around Rochford's historic streets.

The Old House dates back to 1270 and had changed considerably with the passing centuries. The council restored the building in the 1980s but it has only been opened to the public infrequently as it was in constant use.

People joining the walking tour had a rare treat - with the kind permission of the owners of Kings Hill, we were able to take people into their garden to see the Whispering Post at close quarters and to get a better view outside another of Rochford's oldest buildings.

Rochford Hundred Historical Society joined the Town Team in putting on the displays and tours.
